Not Today’s Problem
July 31, 2025
Having a child has changed almost everything about my life, and while most of those changes are wonderful, some have their own set of challenges. Like getting things done.
Laundry piles up, dishes stack, things go unfixed, all because I don’t have enough time to keep up with her needs, my needs and everything else that needs to be done.
So to prevent myself from overflowing with anxiety about everything that needs to get done, I’ve started telling myself that it’s not today’s problem.
Telling myself that it’s not today’s problem alleviates my anxiety in the moment and allows me to be more present.
As soon as I say it to myself, I let the thought go. It’s freeing, and I find myself doing it multiple times a day.
Clean laundry that needs to be put away, not today’s problem. Stack of papers that I need to go through, not today’s problem. Shower curtain that needs to be fixed, not today’s problem. Everything will get done when I have time to do it.
So if you are like me, and you can’t get everything done in a day, here are some things you can do:
- Make lists
- Prioritize your lists by day
- Each day, prioritize your list by time
- Put things out that need to get done so you’ll see them
- Have a process or routine for what you can do
I hope you find the joy in telling yourself it’s not today’s problem and in letting go.
