Having Gratitude (Plus a Journaling Prompt)
November 25, 2025
I was out with a friend the other night, and she described how she’d been feeling blah. Like things have been good, but she has no motivation. No drive. And it’s bringing her down. So I asked her if she feels gratitude. For the things she has. Because after knowing her for 30 years, I know she has everything she’s ever wanted. And it’s time for gratitude.
Having gratitude is a conscious effort. It is something I have to remind myself of throughout the day. When I feel stressed. When I feel like things aren’t going my way. When life feels hard. When it feels like people don’t like me. When doors are closed in my face. I have to remind myself to feel the abundance around me. And to be grateful for all that I have. Because I have so much to be grateful for.
After suffering from repressed trauma and losing myself for 23 years, it has been in the past seven years that I’ve been finding myself again. That I’ve been learning who I am. That I’ve been seeing all that I have. All that I am grateful for. And it’s giving me so much to live for.
Being grateful is where the magic lies. Because it is when we are grateful that we are present. In the moment. Breathing in all that we have. And letting go of what we do not. For it is when we let it go that whatever we want comes to us, anyway. And having gratitude helps us get there.
So the next time you’re feeling down. Or mad. Or like things just aren’t going your way, choose to focus on what is going your way. On what brings you joy. And let the gratitude pour in.
Journaling Prompt:
Keep a gratitude journal.
Get a small notebook and place it by your bedside along with a pen. Each night before bed, write down three things you’re grateful for.
These can be the same things each night, or you can strive for different things that happen each day.
Either way, make sure it is a joyful exercise. And let your gratitude wash over you as you fall asleep.
