13 Tips for Sexual Assault Survivors’ Self-care

I hope you are safe and well. 

As a sexual assault survivor, I know how important self-care is. My intention is to provide you with a self-care routine so you can reconnect to yourself. 

  1. Get yourself to a safe place.

  2. Consider what you currently do for self-care. Think about it and write it down.

  3. Begin journaling every day. Journaling will help you hear yourself. (If you are worried about someone reading it, destroy it after writing it, but make sure you read it first.)

  4. Listen to brainwave activation music.

  5. Meditate. It doesn’t have to be long.

  6. Schedule your days.

  7. Set small goals.

  8. Drink a lot of water. Double what you currently drink.
  9. Take Epsom salt baths. 
  10. Move your body. 
  11. Walk outside alone, preferably in nature.
  12. Let yourself cry. 
  13. When you are able, go to:
    1. occupational therapy,
    2. some form of energy healing (like acupuncture or reiki) and
    3. psychotherapy.
